Families and Babies Class Descriptions

The Incredible First Six Weeks of Life

The beginning of life with your baby is sometimes full of many surprises.  Becoming a parent and caring for a newborn may present challenges for which we feel unprepared for at times.  This class has been created to help prepare new parents for the challenges the birth and new baby will bring to your life.  Practical advice and evidence based information will be shared to help make the transition into parenthood as smooth as possible.

In this class we will discuss:
  • what to expect in the early weeks of life...common new baby cares and concerns
  • coping with sleep deprivation
  • strategies to sooth a fussy baby
  • challenges in dad's life
  • understanding the emotional ups-and-downs, warning signs and when to ask for help
  • breastfeeding support and strategies for success
Please feel free to bring your personal questions and concerns as this class will allow time for open discussion and parent networking.

Baby Massage

This four week comprehensive baby massage class will teach essential techniques for massaging your baby - to help both of you bond, relax and sleep better!  Studies show that babies that are massaged sleep longer and more deeply, tend to have less gas and digestion discomfort and are often very calm babies.

Research also shows that practicing massage:
  • Enhances bonding
  • Emotionally and spiritually nourishes baby
  • Increases parental confidence as they learn to understand their babies' "cues and cries"
  • Promotes longer and deeper sleeping patterns
  • Promotes relaxation for parent and child

  • Will I be a good mommy, can I do this?
  • Symptoms of PPD
